Pastels? In autumn?
I’m not gonna lie, when it comes to rocking pastels I tend to save them for spring and summer. I love wearing lighter colours as the weather begins to perk up, and they always feel really fresh and exciting as winter comes to a close. But more recently I’ve been dipping into pastels for autumn, which is something I wasn’t expecting to do!
When it comes to wearing pastels during the colder months, I think they look better paired with darker, richer tones. Or, if you really want the bright, light colour to stand out they look amazing against blacks. As you can see above, I’ve styled this lilac knit with black skinny jeans, kitten heels and a simple bag.
The only accessories I’ve added are some fun heart shaped sunglasses (which still stick to the monotone theme) and a western style belt. I love that the accessories add some personality to this outfit, but ultimately they don’t steal the show and the lilac jumper is the focus piece (as it should be)!
Choosing the right pastel hue
I always think it’s a good idea to start in your comfort zone, then branch out from there. My comfort zone is blues and purples so it’s no surprise it was love at first sight when I spotted this jumper on the ASOS website! I think lilacs work really well with black, but if you were going to go for a lemon hue I think it could look awesome against camel/nudes and pastel pink would work well with greys.
So there you have it…
Those are my tips and tricks for wearing pastels. If you’re not sure where to start I always think a block colour jumper or midi skirt are safe bets, and really easy to mix in with what’s already in your wardrobe.
I would love to know how you’re styling pastels for autumn, so let me know in the comments below!
