Ever since I was a little girl, I have always enjoyed getting glammed up. I remember smudging blue eyeshadow on my eyelids, liberally applying sticky pink lipgloss to my lips and putting on my favourite sparkly top and skirt for a mini karaoke party I hosted for a group of my friends when I was 11, and honestly, I thought I looked AMAZING and loved every minute of getting ready before belting my heart out to some classic Britney and Christina Aguilera.
Of course, my tastes have improved dramatically since then (I don’t think my love for blue eyeshadow will ever return…) but my love for getting glammed up has remained. The occasions when I get dressed up, and go all out with my makeup, are rare and I think that’s why I love it so much. It feels like a real event and I really enjoy putting on my favourite party playlist and getting my groove on while I contour the shit out of my face and stick on my biggest, most dramatic lashes.
Whenever I go all out I always end up wearing a dress. Whether it’s a velvet bodycon one, or a full-length delicate lace dress or a nude fitted dress like the one above, I always find myself reaching for a dress when I want to look my most glam. Most days I live in jeans and leggings, so I think that’s why I enjoy putting on a dress for a change, it feels special and the right dress can take me from feeling meh to OMG yasssss.
FYI, the dress featured in this post is from ChiChi Clothing and I think we can all agree that it is absolutely stunning! I had a wedding reception in September, and this style of dress is perfect for that kind of formal event. I fond a lot of ‘formal’ dresses right now have thigh high slits or lots of cleavage and while that might work for a night out, it definitely doesn’t for a formal wedding reception!
Whenever I put this dress on, I feel like an absolute princess, it’s just so pretty! It really flatters my shape and when I pair it with some rose gold heels (this are from Dune, last year so probably not available any more!) it’s just perfection.
Are you someone who also loves to get glammed up? Let me know in the comments, I would love to hear about your getting ready rituals and favourite places to shop for formal dresses!
