Ok, real talk, my school uniform was probably the most disgusting, unfashionable ‘thing’ I have ever had the displeasure of wearing. The skirt was grey, with a single pleat to try to stop us from rolling it up, the shirts were white and fitted and the jumpers were baggy and a light grey. We basically all looked like a heard of elephants when we made our way through the school gates en masse!
So, based on how much I despised my school uniform, I never imagined I would be sat here writing a blog post about why I’m taking style inspiration from school uniform…but here I am! Prince of Wales check is everywhere right now, and when I first spotted this mini dress at the Boohoo London Fashion Week gifting lounge the first thing it reminded me of was school uniforms. I decided I had to take it home with me and see what outfits I could conjure up with it…
It’s way too bloody cold to just wear this dress on it’s own, but with a pastel pink top underneath and some nude ankle boots I think it looks really cute! You could also wear this with some tights if you really feel the cold and with my sunnies on and a cream teddybear coat thrown over the top my outfit is complete. I also popped some ‘Pat Butcher’ earrings on to add an extra details to the outfit, and as they’re also a light blue-grey colour, I think it ties everything together really nicely!
In summer I think I’ll be pairing this with my pastel pink trainers and a loose cream cardigan for a casual ‘oh, this old thing?’ look.
So, although the dress initially makes me think of school uniform, I think adding some trend pieces (and more importantly a pop of pastel pink or red) really helps to make it fashionable.
