I love a good afternoon tea, so when I moved to Bermondsey last month I was excited to find a local place to visit for my tea fix. The Bermondsey Square Hotel is just a five minute walk from my new place, and after popping in over the weekend to try their Bees ‘b2’ Afternoon Tea I’m already looking forward to my next visit!
The Bees afternoon tea is a variation of their standard afternoon tea. It includes a Honey Lemonade mocktail and £1 from each afternoon tea booked is donated to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and British Beekeepers Association.
Apart from the Honey Lemonade mocktail, the rest of the afternoon tea is the same as their standard one and includes unlimited teas, a selection of finger sandwiches, plain and fruit scones with cream and jam and a selection of cakes.
The selection includes smoked salmon and cream cheese, egg mayonnaise and brie and cranberry sandwiches – which I was pleasantly surprised by! I hate when afternoon teas include cucumber sandwiches (does anyone really like those?!) so it was great that all three were really nice flavours and I tried one of each. The smoked salmon ones were definitely my favourites, I could literally eat a mountain of those. There were ten sandwiches for us to share between us, which was more than enough, and we unfortunately didn’t manage to finish them.
Honestly, the cakes and scones are the ONLY reason I enjoy afternoon teas so much, and the Bermondsey Square Hotel did not disappoint in their selection. The cakes included were a raspberry cheesecake, brownie and coffee and walnut cake. The cheesecake could have done with being firmer (as you can see above) but apart from that these were really lovely and we took a few home with us as we could not finish them all.
The scones included a plain and fruit version and both were really lovely. Scones are one of my absolute favourite sweet treats so I *may* have had two of these (so worth it!) with plenty of clotted cream and jam.
Once we had sampled the sandwiches, cakes and scones we were well and truly stuffed, I actually think you could share this between three of you as it was so much food.
I opted for an iced caramel latte that was really delicious, and I also tried the Honey Lemonade Mocktail, which was a really lovely touch. The coffee/tea drinks were unlimited, but I didn’t get a refill on my iced latte as when I have too much coffee I am way too jittery! That said, I think it’s great that they do offer refills, as it means you can really relax and enjoy the drinks alongside the food.
I really enjoyed visiting the Bermondsey Square Hotel for afternoon tea, and I’ll definitely be back soon!
