When it comes to fake tan, I’ve previously found that foams and mousses are my perfect formula. They sink into the skin quickly, are easy to buff in for an even coverage. I’ve tried tanning mists (NEVER again, when they tell you to ‘saturate your body in mist’ they don’t tell you it will leave you looking like you’ve dipped your body in Cheeto dust!), oils (again, I’m way too heavy handed for these) and gradual tan creams. Until now nothing has compared to the foams I’ve relied on for the past couple of years. Until I tried the Skinny Tan Wonder Serum Express…
When Skinny Tan asked me if I wanted to try their Wonder Serum Express I was initially hesitant to stray from my beloved formulas. What if I ended up with a streaky tan? Or, even worse, a dodgy shade of orange? Regardless of my worries, I decided to bite the bullet and give it a go so I could report back to you with my findings. I’m going to give it a solid 8/10, with some advice on how to get the most out of it…
Ok so first things first – how to use this tan. I exfoliated in the shower, then moisturised my elbows, knees and ankles before popping on a tanning mitt and getting to work. The formula is dark, like chocolate syrup dark, so I thought I was going to end up looking like I was Blackfishing! I got to work buffing it into my body, starting with my legs. It was really easy to work with, and I quickly got an even tan that dried after ten minutes. The colour did look a bit dark, but as it was the guide colour that didn’t worry me too much.
The last place I applied tan to was my face and I can’t lie, it was a bit of a disaster. Firstly, it applied patchy, clinging to drier areas of my face. I did exfoliate and moisturise before applying, and I haven’t had this issue with other tans! I honestly looked like I had rubbed my face in dirt. After some vigorous buffing in, I decided to leave it and check on it every 10 minutes or so to make sure it didn’t go too patchy.
After 40 minutes I caved and washed it off because my face was looking way darker than my body. I was worried I was going to end up with the most ridiculous brown face! The tan came off easily and once it had fully developed I was actually left with a lovely colour that was even (so maybe it’s just the guide colour that clings?)
I left the rest of the tan on my body for two hours before washing it off. According to their guidelines this should give a medium tan, and I was happy with the colour it developed to. I looked like I had just spent a couple of weeks in Dubai! The colour on my body also matched my face pretty well, so I was happy with that.
So, if you’re looking for a new tan to try out, I would definitely recommend using this one for your body and maybe using a foam for your face. It’s £31.99 for 145ml so a really great price point!
