Now that the weather has taken a turn for the warmer, I’m sure a lot of us are pulling our denim shorts out of our wardrobes and trying to decide how to style them. Whether you prefer a more casual style or want to dress yours up, here’s my tips for styling denim shorts this summer:

This really is down to personal preference. While trends will come and go the best way to get the most out of your denim shorts is to pick a style that you feel confident in. In my guide to finding your perfect jeans I’ve shared some tips for deciding on the rise, length and wash. The same advice applies here.
I like to have a light and dark pair of shorts in my wardrobe. That way I have a lot of flexibility in the types of outfits I can go for. In my wardrobe there’s a black paper bag pair from H&M that were only £19.99. I also have a blue high waisted mom style pair. Each pair gets a lot of wear and they are easy to style with a lot of the bodysuits, blouses and shirts already in my wardrobe.
Again, I think this comes down to personal style. But there are still some key things to consider. One of the most important is proportions. If your denim shorts are tight, it might be worth balancing this out with a floatier top. That said, if you are top heavy (wider shoulders, bigger boobs) that might not work. I would go for a looser, belted pair of shorts with a bodysuit or vest.
You can keep your outfits simple by pairing your shorts with other wardrobe essentials. Or, if you want to make more of a statement with your outfits why not go for a pretty blouse?
Here’s some examples of ways I’ve styled my denim shorts:
If you’re really not sure how to style them give yourself some time to experiment. Pull your five favourite tops out of your wardrobe and try them on with your shorts. See what works and what doesn’t, then go from there.
When it comes to buying new items, and styling them, the most important thing is that you feel confident and happy. There’s no point buying ‘on trend’ things if they sit at the back of your wardrobe and are rarely worn. Stick to what makes you feel good, and have fun with what you wear!
