Four home decor items to elevate your rented living space

Home decor for rented living space

I’ve been renting in London for four years now, and during that time my home decor skills have definitely improved! Moving every 1-2 years has made me good at quickly making a space feel like home. So today, I thought I would share with you four items guaranteed to make your rented living space feel more like home.

A good quality rug will immediately make your bedroom or living room feel just that bit more premium. Whether you prefer faux fur rugs, like the gorgeous Ornatus faux sheepskin rug in the image above, or geometric prints – a high quality rug will transform your rented living space. The one above was £59, but well worth the investment as I will take it with me to every place I rent and it’s a great size for living rooms or bedrooms.

Depending on how many people you are sharing your space with, a rug for your bedroom and living room are probably the best ones to invest in. They’re the rooms you’ll spend the most time in, so spend the most on their decor!

Another quick and easy way to elevate your rented living space is by putting some prints on the walls or on top of your furniture. Personally, I prefer to lean mine against the walls or place them on top of chests of drawers. I feel like this has a more informal look and makes for some nice feature corners in my space.

Personally, I find Desenio the best place to shop for prints. They have a great range of prints and frames, and they have a really premium feel to them. I have a couple of the 50x70cm prints and they look great placed on top of furniture.

A great way to instantly make a rented living space feel more homely is by adding some flowers to it. You can buy fresh flowers weekly or invest in some faux ones that will last for years. Whichever you choose, they will light the room.

Personally, I like to use faux flowers in my bedroom and keep a vase of fresh flowers in my living room. The fresh flowers always make my living space smell great. You can find smaller bunches for £2-4 in supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsburys.

I’m a sucker for candles. I honestly buy them compulsively and I don’t think you can ever have too many! Candles are a great way to elevate your living space. Not only do they look great out on display, but they will fragrance your room with comforting scents. There’s no better feeling than coming home to a great smelling room.

I like to buy mine from TK Maxx and H&M. You really can’t beat either of these when it comes to price, and H&M candles look far more premium than they actually are.
