During the summer months (and especially the blazing hot weather we’ve had recently!) my skin needs a bit more protection and care. SPF is an essential, even when it’s cloudy, and I like to keep the rest of my routine as simple, yet effective, as possible. Of course, each of our skin types is different, so please consider that when reading about my summer skincare routine. I have a normal skin type, with the occasional hormonal breakout on my chin for reference.
This post is an advertisement feature with Boots UK but all thoughts are my own.
Due to COVID-19, treating ourselves to facials just isn’t an option right now! Therefore, a great at home skincare routine is essential right now, and you can find the best skincare products at Boots. Here’s four skincare products I’ve been using on repeat to keep my skin cared for and protected during the summer months.
When it comes to cleansers, I like to go for a formula that will soothe and moisturise my skin. Some formulas can be a bit too harsh for my skin, and I don’t want my skin to feel tight or dried out just after I’ve cleansed it!
The Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish is a cult favourite cleanser for a reason, the formula not only smells amazing but does a great job of gently exfoliating and moisturising my skin. It’s enriched with cocoa butter to soften, smooth and moisturise your skin and the rosemary, chamomile and eucalyptus in the formula tone, soothe and purify.
Using this cleanser leaves my skin feeling soft, balanced and clean. I also notice my complexion is even and brighter when I use this regularly! It’s just £15.50 for 100ml, which typically lasts me 2-3 months.
If you’ve not heard of The Ordinary, where have you been? They quickly became a favourite affordable skincare brand when they launched their range in 2016. Their serums get a lot of hype, and the Buffet serum is one of the most popular.
The Buffet serum is a multi-peptide serum which tackles multiple signs of ageing. Basically, the serum does it all, which makes it easy to incorporate into your skincare routine with minimal fuss. As well as reducing fine lines, the serum hydrates, brightens and firms the skin. Combined with Cleanse & Polish, this serum leaves my skin looking clear and bright, which is exactly what I want for the summer months when I’m wearing less makeup!
Just a heads up, Buffet shouldn’t be used with:
An SPF is essential during summer (we should really be using them all year round to protect our skin during the day!) and this won’t break the bank. The YourGoodSkin SPF 30 is an anti-oxidant day cream that is formulated with green tea and Vitamin C. The moisturiser is silky soft, sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave you with a white cast.
It provides 24 hour protection and is formulated without parabens and oil-free. This means it won’t block your pores! When I use this, I know my skin is protected all day and will feel hydrated. If you are going to be in direct sunlight, or sunbathing, don’t just rely on this. Make sure you regularly top up with a SPF 30 or higher to keep your skin protected!
Most of us know we need to protect our skin with an SPF during summer, but what about our lips? The Lanolips Lip Ointment in Rhubarb has SPF 30, which keeps my lips protected all summer long.
I love the subtle pink tint it has, perfect for minimal or no makeup days, and the formula feels super hydrating. The 15ml tube is easy to pop in my bag and take with me during the day for regular touch ups. If you want to give your cheeks a subtle flush, you can also dab a bit of this on your cheekbones! I love how nourishing and versatile this product is, I just can’t get enough of it.
